Seems the more we learn about the Nexus 6, the more it’s sounding like it was quickly hurried out the door. Another piece of evidence? The smartphone’s dormant (hidden) RGB LED light as discovered by some folks over on XDA. Yes, it’s there. Right smack dab in the center of the top speaker. Like most things, you’ll need root if you’re looking to activate it and an app like Light Flow to configure it.

How to add a U2F Security Key to your Google Account

Your Google Account is important. "One login, all of Google" also means one login will not only get you into all of your services and data, it potentially could let someone else in, too. And that's why, as we've told you over and overagain, you need to use two-step authentication. That way, even if your password is cracked or — god forbid — stolen, any would-be trespassers have to obtain this secondary piece of verification in order to do anything. For most of us, that second step is provided by Google Authenticator, but Google has given us another method: U2F Security Keys.

First things first, we need a USB Key, and sadly not just any USB key will do. Even if you've got a drawer full of abandoned flash drives — we know, we have them, too — we need a special kind of USB Key that is labeled as U2F-ready by the FIDO Alliance, which can be found here. The one we used is theYubico FIDO U2F Security Key on Amazon, but there are a few others out there. It's a tiny, little key that comes in a tiny, little plastic sleeve with a tiny, little card telling you go to their website to get started. This is where the documentation and owner's manual is, so to speak, complete with instructional videos.

To link our security key to our Google Account, we first need to get into Security settings within our Account settings on a desktop or laptop computer. For any worried Chromebook users, we had no issues doing this on our Pixel. Your account settings are found by clicking your pretty little avatar on the top-right corner of most Google pages and clicking "Account."

Security settings are the second tab from the left, and where we can change our passwords and enter the wonderful world of 2-step verification. This is also the page you'll visit to tend to things such as backup emails (should you somehow lose your password), but they are redacted for now.

Once you get into the 2-step settings, you'll see four tabs. The first deals with verification codes, such as text-delivered codes and Google Authenticator. That's also where your backup codes hide, and I'd print off a page of them before you go any further. The second is app-specific passwords, which can be used for apps that don't have native 2-step support. The third is registered computers, where you can reset all computers you've heretofore certified as only needing a password rather than needed 2-step verification. And then the last tab holds our current target: Security Keys. Once your key has shown up, here's where you'll come to link this puppy up.

Here we have the actual implementation. On-screen directions make this simple as possible. You start with the key unplugged. Click the "Register" button on-screen, then plug in the key. If your key has a button, like ours, tap said button and wait until the "Register" button turns green and the "Done" button become clickable.

Now registered, it's ready to be deployed whenever you log in at your aunt's house, or your co-worker's workstation, or that shady internet cafe where your study group absolutely insists on meeting to plan that presentation. The key is a durable plastic, and while we may advocate a sleeve if your key ring is a tough place for tech, it'll be fine in your pocket while not unlocking your precious Google account.

One more beautiful aspects of USB Security Keys: you can have more than one. App-based codes can only go to one phone at a time. Security Keys like these can be left with relatives, loved ones, or in your safe deposit case in the event of your death/disappearance/faking your death in a factory fire for insurance money. And should you leave it at home, you still have Google Authenticator, SMS codes, and those backup codes you printed before adding your security key.
So you have absolutely, completely, utterly NO excuse not to turn on two-step with Google and get your security on. Do you having a physical key to your account is for you, or will you stick to good old-fashioned 6-digit PIN codes?

New Android 5.0 Lollipop factory images for the Nexus 5, 7, 10 and 9

Android 5.0 Lollipop is upon us! The Nexus 9 tablet tablet has been on sale for a good while, but today the first Lollipop updates have started to become available for Nexus devices in the form of factory images. At the time of writing we're seeing Lollipop factory images for the Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (Wifi-only, 2013 + 2014 models) and Nexus 10 over on the Android Developers site. There's also an updated build for the Nexus 9 — LRX21Q.
As always, Android 5.0 updates will filter to Nexus and Google Play edition devices automatically in the coming weeks for those who don't manually update.
However if you don't want to wait to update your Nexus phone or tablet, the good news is that manually updating your device is relatively easy. All you'll need is your Nexus, an unlocked bootloader, a little bit of command line knowledge. We'll walk you through the process after the break.
Caution: This guide is intended for technically proficient users only. Proceed at your own risk. Dragons ahead, etc.

Where to find Nexus factory images

Factory images allow you to restore your Nexus to the latest version of Android, regardless of whatever software — or custom ROM — you're running. These can be downloaded from Google here. You'll need a Nexus with an unlocked bootloader in order to flash a factory image. Before beginning, remember to double-check you're using the right factory image for your device!
Note that flashing your Nexus to Lollipop using the instructions below will wipe EVERYTHING on your device — apps, photos, music and all.

How to flash your Nexus to Lollipop using a factory image

  1. Unpack the factory image package from Google to the Android SDK/platform-tools folder on your computer
  2. On your Nexus, go to Settings > Development options and switch the toggle on. Then enable USB debugging under the "Debugging" menu group.
  3. Power down your phone or tablet.
  4. Start up the bootloader by holding down volume up, volume down and power on your device.
  5. When the menu loads, plug your Nexus into your computer.
  6. On your computer, open up a command prompt or terminal window.
  7. Using the command line, navigate to the Android SDK/platform-tools folder
    • On Windows, type: flash-all.bat
    • ... or on Mac, type: ./flash-all.sh
    • ... or on Linux, type: ./flash-all.sh 
      Your device will be wiped and set up with a clean install of Android 5.0.
  8. Enjoy some delicious Lollipop!

The factory images for Android 5.0 Lollipop just keep a-rollin' out. Following the rollout earlier this week to more recent Nexus devices, the latest to nab a coat of sugary-sweet goodness is the Nexus 4 with build number LRX21T.

Exclusive: Android Wear 5.0 Lollipop features revealed, adds plenty of new goodies for your smartwatch


With Android 5.0 Lollipop showing up on the Moto X, being announced for the LG G3, and of course Google’s latest round of Nexus devices hitting the Play Store, Android fans have been wondering when the latest sweet treat from Google will hit their wrist computer. Yesterday, we showed you the first part of that update with Material Design changes and features coming to the Android Wear companion app. Today, we’re going to show you the second part of our two part feature: this is an exclusive look into some of the new features coming to the Android Wear 5.0 Lollipop update.
Once your Android Wear smartwatch has been updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, the Android Wear companion app truly comes to life, adding additional features. The most notable are Watch battery and Watch storage.

Watch Battery & Storage

The Watch battery page resembles what you would find under the battery information on your phone or tablet, displaying a graph with estimated battery life as well as a breakdown of which apps are chewing away at battery juices. The Lollipop update for Android Wear includes a Watch storage monitor through the companion app, allowing you to see which apps are the most storage hungry. With the recent capability of storing music on your wearable, it’s beneficial to know exactly where you stand storage wise.

You’ll also notice that Debugging over Bluetooth is back. Congrats developers!

Watch Face Improvements

Not pictured above but extremely important, you can now change your Watch face directly from the companion app. Beyond the companion app, the developers and general watch face enthusiasts will be quite happy to see an official watch face API launch with Lollipop.
The newly revamped watch face API allows for even further customization thanks to a settings menu existing on the watch face itself. Watch faces on the Lollipop update allow for weather notifications to be displayed directly on the watch face, cutting out the need to swipe through your cards for the Google Now weather card. Some of the new watch faces and weather icons are shown below.

Recovering dismissed cards

If you’ve ever dismissed a notification card on Android Wear to have immediately regretted that decision, you’ll be happy to know that dismissed cards can now be recovered with a simple swipe. Just swipe upwards and you’ll be presented with an undo option. This is probably one of the most sought after features since the launch of the platform and we evenmentioned it here, while detailing a few features we’d like to see changed or updated in the future.

Screen Brightness Toggles

Another complaint with Android Wear surrounds screen brightness. For example, while at a movie theater, it’s generally frowned upon to have a bright light emanating from your wrist while others are trying to enjoy the darkness. Oppositely, it’s hard to read your smartwatch while in direct sunlight. While third party applications exist to turn screen brightness up or down (and you can also mute notifications on your phone and on your smartwatch to solve this issue), clearly something a bit more user friendly needs to be done.

Android 5.0 Lollipop will introduce Theater mode and Sunlight mode. These new screen modes can be accessed through revamped options that appear when you swipe down. With Lollipop, swiping down will bring about a new menu. The new menu is then navigated by swiping to the left and includes Theater mode, Sunlight mode, Silence, and Settings. With Theater mode, the screen stays off unless you press the hardware button or double tap the screen.

Improvements for Vision Impairment

Lollipop for Android Wear adds new accessibility features which should make viewing and interacting with your smartwatch easier for those that need a little extra help. The accessibility features included large text, color inversion, and magnification gestures. These can all be enabled and disabled from the Settings menu.

Ok Google

The main action menu which can be launched with a tap on the screen or voicing the launch command ‘ok google’ while the screen is active is partaking in a major update with Lollipop too. The menu now sorts actions based on your most recently used feature. If you’re often launching commands via the touch interface, this is a welcomed changed. The reordering of the menu based on your use habits isn’t new to Google’s wearables either, this feature has been in Google Glass for a while now.

Good stuff with more on the way!

From what we can see, the overall user experience and user interface remains the same for Android Wear 5.0. Many have been expecting a more Material Design take on things, but from the looks of it, that isn’t happening right now. Thankfully Google has addressed a few user pain points with this release and aims to pack in feature tweaks as well. As always, features are subject to change and could be removed or added when the update rolls out to devices. As for a time frame, we’re hearing sometime in early December, which is about a month away.

ووفقاً للتسريبات فإن هاتف "Xperia Z4" سيدعم الشحن اللاسلكي "Qi Wireless Charging"، ولن يكون هناك غطاء يحمي منفذ "microSD" من الماء لكن سيكون المنفذ مضاد للماء بدونه وسيكون الهاتف مضاد للماء بمعيار "IP68"، وسيأتي الهاتف بمعالج " Snapdragon 810 " ثماني النواة وبذاكرة وصول عشوائية سعتها 4 جيجابايت وبذاكرة تخزين داخلية سعتها 32 جيجابايت.
أما هاتف "Xperia Z4 Compact" سيأتي بشاشة قياسها 4.6 بوصة وبدقة 1080p أما فابلت "Xperia Z4 Ultra" فلا يوجد الكثير من المعلومات عنه ولكن ذكر المصدر أن الهاتف قد يأتي بشاشة قياسها 6.4 بوصة وبدقة "QHD" أو "4k".
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن اللوحي "Xperia Z4 Tablet" سيأتي بشاشة قياسها 10.1 بوصة وبدقة "QHD"، وسيأتي بذات تصميم "Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact" مع حواف أنحف وسماعتين ستريو في الجهة الأمامية ومتوقع أن يكون الجهاز واحد من أنحف اللوحيات التي تأتي بشاشة قياسها 10 بوصة، وسيأتي بنفس مواصفات هاتف " Xperia Z4" مع كاميرا خلفية بدقة 13 ميجا بكسل وأمامية بدقة 8 ميجا بكسل.
